Location
Leah decided to gather information for possible locations that we could use while filming. Because we have yet to decide what idea we are using for the music video, Leah has prepared some brief location ideas for each song and when we later decide to focus on one, we will create a more detailed post on the locations we will use to film for our chosen song. All the locations that were decided on are within a reachable distance and most of them I can walk to. Out of the three of us, Leah is the only driver and so is able to transport us to the further away areas such as Birmingham. Failing to get a lift from Leah, myself and Emily also have the train as an option and know that to Birmingham it is around £10.
Thoughts- Tate McRae
The idea behind this song was to incorporate dancing in a really photographic area. We thought that by having beautifully graceful dancing in an area thats derelict and run down there would be a shocking contrast that intrigued the eye and kept the audience interested. We also felt that it would create an imbedded meaning of always finding beauty even in the ugly.
The Wombats - I Only Wear Black
For this song we wanted the location to be mundane, boring and ordinary because the narrative behind it is following the life of a sad monster that struggles to see the good in his life, everything is grey coloured to him and he is constantly fed up with his surroundings. Nuneaton seemed to be just the right amount of normal we need for this idea, theres nothing spectacular or different about the town which is the attitude we want our character to embody.
Florence and the Machine - I'm Not Calling You A Liar
This idea is my least favourite as I feel not a lot of thought went into it and is very similar to the a music video already done by Florence and the Machine (Dog Days Are Over). None the less we still decided to plan for it incase we have to use it. The idea we came up with is to have some kind of loner, reject character roaming the woods and finding a home within the wildlife. Leah knows the area of Atherstone quite well and is confident that there are wooded areas that would be ideal to work in. She also noted two other forests that would also work and we could use if needed.
Two Doors Down - Mystery Jets
The idea of having a character with quite an unexciting, mundane life was also adopted in this song idea. We wanted a narrative romantic aspect to it and so created a character that is all grey and finds a girl that is extremely colourful and bright. To emphasise the boredom in the 'grey boy's' life, Leah chose a location that was ordinary and dull. This would help to exaggerate the misery that the boy feels before he finds love.

Jesse Reyez - Figures
Our final idea was a lot more studio based and common for music videos. We wanted parts of the video to be filmed in the photography studio at our college and the rest to be in urban areas like Digbeth, Birmingham. This would give the music video a more modern feel and mimic the conventions of popular music videos in the media.
Decision:
While all the ideas and locations that we came up with were strong and had a substantial plot we could work with, the one one that we have unanimously decided is the most sound is 'I Only Wear Black' by The Wombats. We chose this idea because we felt that the narrative was fun and interesting and we feel that we can execute it to a high standard. Myself in particularly am very keen on having a solid narrative running throughout the film because I feel that those types of music videos are the most engaging and fun to watch. I am also very interested in the whole 'homemade, low budget 80s horror film' aesthetic where nothing is done through CGI but instead through props and costume. Due to our circumstances of being students with limited time and money, this is a good aesthetic to follow and by using The Wombats' song we are confident that we will have a creative style that still looks professional. The location for this music video will be kept very local because our surrounding area is perfect for the aesthetic we are aiming for, this is a benefit for us because it will mean that travel will be easy and inexpensive.

Areas in Nuneaton that we want to focus on are:
Riversley park - Its a very ordinary looking park with not a lot of colour or uniqueness, also the dull weather we are having at the moment will help to emphasise the monotonous vibe we are aiming for.
Nuneaton town - Again this is an area that is quite sombre and can look quite gloomy. Establishing shots will be quite good to incorporate in this town.
Either mine or Emily's home - For the narrative there are quite a few shots that have been planned to take place in a home. My house or Emily's house would work for this but we need to discus as a group which we will go for.
